Julian qualified as a Social Worker and Practice Teacher before becoming a Probation Officer specialising in work with mentally disordered offenders and adult sex offenders. During a period with an NSPCC Offender Management team, he undertook assessment and treatment provision for adult and adolescent sexual offenders, becoming a Home Office-accredited Sexual Offender Treatment Programmes (SOTP) facilitator. He was also involved in shaping groupwork for sexually harming adolescents, most specifically the Youth In Need Group run by the NHS Bracton Clinic.

Julian’s association with SWAAY began in 1991 and in 2001, he returned as our Head of Therapy. He regularly contributes to research in our field, presenting workshops and seminars in the UK and overseas and contributing to academic publications. He also applies his extensive experience to related strands of work, acting as an expert witness and producing risk assessments for Criminal and Civil Courts, Social Services Departments and Youth Offending Services. Julian is registered with the General Social Care Council and a member of the National Organisation for the Treatment of Abusers (NOTA).
