Richard Beckett

Richard Beckett is a Consultant Clinical and Forensic Psychologist who served as Head of the NHS Oxford and Thames Valley Forensic Psychology Service for 17 years.

A founder member of the National Organisation for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers (NOTA) and the European Association for Work with Sexually Abusive Youth (ESSAY), he has also conducted work for Save the Children and been funded by the European Community Stop Programme, which advises on the development and evaluation of sex offender treatment programmes. Richard is also a highly respected contributor to research into sexual abuse, having co-published numerous academic papers, contributed to books and presented at national and international conferences on the subject.

Richard has been associated with SWAAY since 1997 and was a driving force in the sourcing of funding for and the development of our Adolescent Sexual Abuser Project (ASAP), a major initiative aimed at improving the assessment and treatment of sexually harming young people. Today he continues to work directly with us, delivering highly valued consultancy input and professional support and guidance to members of the SWAAY team working towards a Chartered Forensic Psychologist qualification.
